    Re: optimax rebuild kit (rizo1278)

We can get you whatever parts you need... gaskets, bearings, piston(s), rings, etc.

Don't have a "kit".... but can put together what you need, once it's torn down and damage extent determined.

I DO NOT recommend "aftermarket" pistons for the Optimax Engines. The piston "dish" geometery is VERY critical to proper running characteristics.

Also DO NOT recommend aftermarket reeds in an Optimax.

Put a list together.... we'll get you some pricing.

thanks for your reply don. The powerhead has been torn down don looks like 3 of my pistons are scratched or scuffed on the sides from broken reeds. cylinder walls are in good shape and so are all the bearings, motor was still running great at the time of tear down. don can i still use the same bearings and just get new pistons rings and hone cylinders?

Possibly, but I would personally replace the wrist pin bearings on those cylinders, AT A MINIMUM.

Drop me an email with your serial number, and a list of what parts you need. Please include the CYLINDER NUMBERS you are planning to replace pistons in.... port and starboard are different.

Why not aftermarket reeds? I have put an 01 Opti back together and used reeds from Chris Carson Marine. They are like Boysen reeds. I havent fired it up as of yet but was just wondering why not...

    Thanks,

Changing the reed DESIGN or MATERIAL can result in "altered airflow characteristics".

The Optimax engines operate on a "Speed-Density" fuel injection theory. The ECM/PCM has no means to "compensate" for differences in airflow. Since these engines are "very clean burning- gallon pinching machines".... there is ALWAYS a concern of "lean run conditions" when more air is supplied to the engine.

Lean-running ANY 2-stroke engine can (and usually does) result in CATASTROPHIC POWERHEAD FAILURE.
