Should be on a switch to avoid draining a battery.

The heading sensor has nothing to do with i pilot. It just tells the tm which direction is the front of your boat. You can put it in a rod locker so long as the arrow is pointing towards the front. It is only used by the tm for the jog feature while on spot lock so if your not using a remote or your h bird screen to jog you dont even need to install it.

Just run it off something that only has power when your master power is switched on, no separate switching needed.

If its iPilot LINK, both the iPilot GPS and Heading Sensor can the used with a display for both functions=same as the Humminbird AS GPS HS.

Wayne I have a Bluetooth I pilot Terrova with micro remote. I’m just wanting the ability to jog when spot locked. I’ve heard you could jog with the micro remote & also that you couldn’t. Which is it? Thanks

I don’t think it was a correction. Wayne added other reasons you might want to install it. By the way in a in a compartment is ok if it is relatively horizontal and still has Bluetooth signal to the trolling motor. JMO Bob

The only things I have that doesn't get shut down by the combination of my Perko Switch and Fishing Electronics switches are my AS GPS HS puck and my NMEA 2000 Backbone. With everything else shut down and the Perko off, I'm still getting a 0.2 AH draw on my Lithium electronics battery, per the BMS reporting. Not sure it's worth going to the trouble to install switches, since I plug in my On Board 3 Bank Charger after every trip anyway.

SLYDoggie thanks. I’m definitely going to put it on a switch so I know it’s off when not in use.
