I have always tied directly to the spook and have never had a problem with the action. If it works for you go for it. It is alot about the confidence one has in the lure and technique one uses and does it catch fish. Former Illinoisen from Skokie. Tight Lines

I tie directly to the spook. A spook has more action and is easier to control if you use a shorter rod. My spook rod is 5'10".

I always add a split ring. For Poppers I tie a loop knot.
