No water coming out of my new lower unit? Please help!!

Hey guys I have a bf130 and replaced the lower unit last year and just took the boat out and there was no water coming out of the hole?? The motor ran fine, never got hot or anything but as soon as I noticed it, I shut it down. I’ve heard of stuff getting sucked up there and getting stuck, blocking the water from coming out? Do you think that’s what’s happening here? I just bought a new lower unit last year so I don’t think it’s the propeller inside the water pump. Any thoughts?

To start if you have a welding tip / carb. jet cleaner you could try to "rod out" the hole. May get lucky and it be some crud or scale built up near the hole opening. Can even try some heavy weight fishing line to get further up in there. But, don't rule out having to check the water pump components.

If it worked last year it should work now in most cases. I don't know where you're located, but down here dirt dobbers will plug up most anything they can find.

My BF130 did that from time to time. Quick fix if you're already on the water to go fishing is to disconnect the pee tube where it exits the the cowling (should just pull right off) and blow into the tube. When blowing into the tube, you will feel some resistance since the tubes are small. But you should also hear the air pushing back into the motor passages and bubble and gurgle. In my case it sometimes gets clogged with debris and I could hear the air pushing into the motor then all of a sudden it would get easier to blow into it. Once that happened I started the motor and all kinds of junk came out the pee tube.
Long term fix is to start tracing lines back to the motor/VST etc. and look for clogging. I found a good video on where the water goes into the back of the VST to pre-cool the fuel and that is a good place to look for clogging. Hope that helps.
