When i am fishing plastics and jigs around heavy cover it seems like i get hung up all the time. I lost many hooks because i could not get them unhooked. I was wondering if you guys could tell me a few tricks on how to not get hung up so much

For jigs, try a lighter weight jig. Also, push the weedguard forward and make it into a V shape-hope you can picture what I mean. I push forward on the base of the guard to spread it out. As far as worms go, it depends on the presentation (T-rig, C-rig, etc) but the biggest thing I can think of is a sensitive rod and experience. If you're fishing heavy cover, you're bound to hang up.

on the jigs, use a little heavier weedguard, on the plastics, try texs rigging the worm by pshing the hook all the way through, then just skin hooking it so the hook is not exposed at all. it's normal to get hung up in heavy cover, everyone does it. it's just something they don't show you on tv. if you're fishing the heavy stuff, you've got to expect to lose some tackle!![]()
looks like we were posting at the same time!!!!!
if your talkin wood, when you feel the wood jiggle it w/ slight pressure, dont pull it into the wood.its a feel thing w/ practice youll hardly ever get hung up.rocks, is another story.

You can also try to "twang" your line when the jig or worm hangs. if you dont set the hook first. Its easier to show then explain but ill try. you pull the rod up gently just to straighten the line, then grab the line between the reel and first guide with your hand and pull to the side so it loads the rod a bit more. then release the line and the tension from the rod at the same time. a few snaps like that will usually free it if it's not wedged to tight.
I agree - the "twang" will get you un-hung over 1/2 of the time. It may be beter understood to explain like firing a bow. Raise your rod up and pull back like you are getting ready to fire an arrow with your line - pop it and lower your rod at the same time - it may take a few times, but it works!
