Spot remover -- poor hook set :crying:

    Hi Guys,
So I started fishing spot removers this and I really how I seem to be triggerin alot of bites...

I had one trouble though.... I got alot of hook sets in poor locations... I lost some fish and landed some but the ones that I landed also has some poor locations. None were ever in the top but all seem to hook on to the fleshy parts near the sides that would be thrown off easily...

Are there any techniques that I might be missing??? Perhaps the way I rig it?
I bury the end of the worm in the holder and then run the hook through to make sure the tip of the hook is slightly exposed...

I have not had any issues with this jighead. I make sure the worm is strait and also take it through so that the point is barley out. All fish cought on this jig have been either in the cartlidge side or the roof of the mouth.

    Sorry

I was in the same situation. I fished with spot removers for 2 years missing hookups, and getting spit after a short fight. Got soooo many bites though. Switched to spot stickers for prefishing. Just cause they were much cheeper. Found that I got just as many bites, but alot more fish in the boat. Anyway spotstickerbaits has never paid me dime, so I got no reason to promote them. Just trying to help. Good luck.

Try setting the hook in a straight up motion. It seems tomake a difference for me. I initially started out with a sweep style hookset but found just a straight set worked best for better hookups.

I had the same problem--missed a lot of fish--and I've talked to other fishermen who have the same complaint with spot removers. I've switched to a ball head jig and rig it Texas style. I rarely miss a fish now. I believe the keeper that holds the worm head on the spot remover impairs hook ups.

I almost gave up on Spot Removers. I put a thin StrikeKing 3X on and super glued the head and solved the worm management problem. I also found the Riverbottomlure Getsem works fine glued on. It floats tail up. Too-tough worms don't let the hook mash through to expose enough hook. Some you can't really do it mashing with your fingers, so I doubt a bass would do any better. The other problem was learning to give the bass time to eat the thing. Premature hooksets don't expose enough hook. The bass has to chomp down to expose it. If all that's exposed is a little bit over the back of the worm it's not enough to grab a mouth roof or thick lip cartilage, but might get a lip edge. Try using worms with attractant built in to make the fish hold on and mouth it longer. The over-head straight up hookset is the way to sink the hook home. Give it a few seconds to eat it then don't pussy foot around with it. Cross his eyes.
