    BIG THANKS TO SSIMPALA71

    Brian,
I just realized that you were the tech that worked on my 08 Merc 225 Pro XS. I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to you more. I was in sort of a big panic with the motor problems I had during my very short practice days for the Stren Championship at Table Rock Lake.

I would like to thank you again for taking the time to work on my problems with no scheduled appointment.

I'm still having some issues with the motor. My hole shot is now sluggish and my WOT rpms are off by 300-400 rpms. I'm also getting random low voltage fault alarms on the smart craft monitor. It also seems that I'm getting water under the hood from some where at higher rpms, can not find a leak on the muffs.

    Joe:

I agree- Brian's a great guy, and goes out of his way to help folks out!

From what I've heard of your problem, I'd recommend that you try to monitor your engine for leaks while it's "in the lake, with the hood off". Short term run, of course (let it get up to temp first), and perhaps run at 3000 RPM range intially.

Pay special attention to the thermostat area, and coolant lines to/from the air compressor.

Depending on where the water is coming from, it may be related to your irratic voltage faults (something may be getting wet that should not be).

Joe, you are most welcome!!! We really try to help out the tx fishermen! Most of the other dealers wont even look at one until they're "cought up"! As for your engine,,If I am remembering correctly, we couldnt pinpoint a definite area that was "wet" although there was a lot of lime dried on the powerhead. The cold joint weld/seams are where most of the "leaks"were occurring so thats where I would start the search. Problem is, you need to be able to distinguish current water spots from old ones! You wont find a water leak on the flush muffs. The leaks dont occur until you reach closer to your maximum water pressure. You need to completely dry off the powerhead as best as can be, try to remove at least some of the water spots and test run again. Then shut down and look for "wet" spots. If a seam is defective, get it to a Premier dealer and you'll get a new powerhead!--But we gotta confirm where its coming from! This would explain the voltage alarm!

Have an idea here (I've never tried it, but it should work):

Take a photo of the water spots "first", then use some solvent to remove "as much of them as possible".

There is a "paste material" used to stick gas and oil tanks, that turns a "bright color" when it hits water. A few swabs of this material around joints near where you found the water spots might show up "where the most water is coming from"... and the paste could be removed later with solvent.

    Just a thought.... of course.
