3 miles from 258 ramp and smoky as heck! I sure hope it is from the Dismal Swamp fire and not new stuff. Sure wish we would get decent rain to put that fire out!!!!

Smoke is from the Dismal Swamp...winds have shifted to the east, so the west side of the fire will get the smoke for the next few days. It's going to take some rain with an official name to put this one out.![]()
Do you think they will be able to contain it? I know that peat will burn for 14 forevers without tropical storm, but maybe they can keep it from spreading??????
All depends on the weather, wind, etc. Right now, it's only 10% contained, but as long as the winds remain relatively calm, growth potential will be low. The strategy on this fire is to fill the ditches around it in the swamp with water from Lake Drummond, as opposed to the more traditional approach of cutting fire lines around it. They seem to be making good progress with the plan, but it will take some time to accomplish. If the weather continues to cooperate, they may begin to get a handle on it in a couple weeks.
Smoke gone now...
That sounds like a heck of a job pumping that much water out of the lake. I pray it works out quickly! I used to ride in the swamp along the ditches and around the lake. Hard to believe the ditches are dry!!!!
No Carlos, they didn't get very much of the rain in that area. Estimates are it will take in excess of six inches of rain to have any real impact on the fire.
yyeeoow looked like more rain in your area to help. We saw it on the radar..we are hoping the rain helps overall.
