    Trim sending unit

    Evinrude Model: E175GLECD
My trim sending plastic arm (item 88) does not touch the motor when the motor is trimmed out fully. There is about 1/2" gap between the trim sending arm and the motor at full trim. It looks like there is suppose to be a part of some kind attached to the motor that this sending arm touches. If so, does anybody know what this part is called?

Because the sending arm is extended before the motor is completely trimmed out, the gauge shows full trim when I actually have 3/4" of the trim rod left to extend.

There is a bit of adjustment in the sender that can be made.

I loosened the two bolts holding the sending unit in place and rotated the unit as far as it would go. It still has about a 1/2" gap between the arm and motor at full trim (see 2nd picture). The unit can't rotate far enough to touch the motor. And the arm doesn't adjust. I checked the arm and it doesn't appear to be broken (see picture). I thought the shiny spot on the motor was where a bracket was at, but after I looked again I could tell that it's just where the arm hits the motor when it's trimmed down.
    Any ideas?

Does anything look broken? Is there an adjustment that I'm missing?

If it is adjusted all the way out then the only other thing I can think of is to swap out the sender with another that has a longer arm. Senders aren't cheap so you may want to live with it. I know that is a crummy answer but that's the only one I have.

Thanks fred. I'll try to manufacture something myself to fix it. Might try to add something to the arm or build a new arm. Or maybe build a bracket on the motor to fill the gap. Thanks for the help.

I have seen this with one of the CDI replacement sending units. On the CDI, the arm was a different size and at a different angle. Ended sending the CDI back and got the BRP sender.
