omc lower unit which will work fuel pump q's

i have a 1989 225 and need a lower unit, how new of a unit will work also need a fuel pump vro was disabled long ago any ideas

Check the motor parts for sale page. Your 1989 225 has a one piece drive shaft so for ease of replacement look for a 200 and up V-6 up to 1991 model year. For a fuel pump look for a VRO off of a blown motor. You can leave the oil side disabled if you wish.

You could also get a newer unit with the correct length upper driveshaft. Used gearcases, even with an attractive price, should really be avoided, as you never know what you're getting.

vro was disconnected long ago I was hoping to use an brand new earlier diaphram style pump maybe off the 235's and i am definatley nervous about a used lower unit but the funds just arent there for a refurb or aftermarket thanks for all the help so far i can cancel out every unit i found so far
