    Custom rod---Finished Product (Pic heavy)

I got my Nelson custom rod last week. It looks great, and performs as expected. Here's a few pics:

    Next to my Falcon rod:

I like the hook hanger placement:

I like this weight kit on the end of the handle:

    I like the micro guides:

Kinda blurry, but you get the idea:

It's a 7'-6" flippin stick, made from a Castaway blank. It's heavy power, with a slow taper. The tip is just soft enough for pitchin jigs, but still stiff enough for a solid hook-set. The rod really loads up when you set the hook. It has a slow enough taper to prevent you from ripping the hook out, but enough backbone to pull and steer fish away from cover. I've only used it once so far, but I can tell it's a winner!

Damn, sounds like a rod I need for Gibbons Creek. Them doggon pad fish work their cover to the best of their ability...
Might have to look up Nelson

He makes nice rods. This rod would be good for the pads. It's the Castaway 905 blank. I really like the hypalon foam handle grips.

Just tell him you want "Steve's Flippin Stick".
I was casting, flippin, and pitchin 3/8oz jigs and Zoom Speed Craws with a 1/4oz. weight. The frog baits are at least the same weight or a little heavier. I'm sure this rod would cast frog baits as well. I also plan to use this rod for the lighter swim baits.

Check out photos 76-79 on his website. Those are pics he took before he sent the rod to me. The handle turned out really nice.

Nice rod, I have had to switch to heavy rods with a fast tip, meaning a softer tip. This has helped me stop breaking off on hook set when fishing cr rigs and tx rigs. I reserve the scrape sticks for Frogs.

    That thing looks really balanced.
Is the silver end a counter balance?

    Re: Custom rod---Finished Product (SkeetRJ)

Yes, the silver end is a counter-balance weight. I ordered another weight (lighter) for this reel. If I buy a lighter reel (which I plan to do), I'll put the heavier weight back on. With either reel/weight combo, I can make it balance right at the reel seat collar. When you hold just the fore-grip, the rod tips up.

Hey Bryan, you should consider getting a rod with a slow-moderate taper. It will have a softer backbone. That should help you keep from breaking off. I still use a fast taper for worms, but I don't have line breaks. Maybe you just need to lay off the juice.

I already have several custom rods with the action I want. Got too many in fact. Diagnosed my issue several years ago, found a few blanks that helped my cause. This is where custom rods can help anglers.
