    2006 250xs performance

    New to me..
    2007 Ranger Z21
    Merc 250xs Serial-1E001839
    10” bobs hyd jack
    Tempest 25p

Running WOT I’m only seeing 5500 rpm and 63 mph trimmed up. PSI drops below 15 as soon as I raise jack plate above 3” with no increase in rpm. Also noticing some hesitation/stutter at WOT. Tried croxton 4 blade 24p with very little improvement. Too much prop? Does this motor require 91 octane? Has the painted block and 87 sticker on cowling. Any ideas?

If water pressure drops below 15, then you are likely too high.
Do you have a Sportmaster lower unit?

    Should be a Gen-1 Torquemaster (1.75R)

Yes it is. Figure I’ll start by replacing fuel lines, filters, and impeller. Motor should turn that 25p tempest to 6000.

I would also do the Pulse Fuel Pump. See the FAQ section for this post:

Update.. swapped bulb, gray line from bulb straight to motor, fuel filter, and diaphragm kit. Ran it today 5800 @ 68 mph.. No surging and more torque. Going to get a 24p for summer to gain that extra rpm. Thanks Don and Jesus .
