Lightning gearcase vs standard gearcase on 2001 Evinrude 200 hp RAM Ficht

I just looked at the manufacturers plate on my motor. It was manufactured in October of 2000. It says 3279 CC which tells me it is a 2001 model as it is obviously the 3.3 liter motor. It has a standard gearcase. Would I gain anything on a 2000 Gambler Outlaw 19ft boat by switching to the lightning gearcase? I may be able to raise the motor some which might mean more speed. Is the standard gearcase I have a new an improved case from previous years? Thanks !

Any thoughts on this? I run a 19' single console Gambler Outlaw which might get me over 80mph with the Lightning or lightning II case....

I guess I'll run Croxton's 27 Razor 3 first and see where I'm at. If I get to 80 I will be satisfied and stay with the magnum case. It these other guys can get 80 out of a 1993 intimidator with a 2.5 200 merc efi than I should be able to do it with my 200 RAM Ficht on an equally fast hull. After a year on this post I guess I can wait a little longer LOL

Sam, You may or may not see any performance gains from a standard case vs. a Lightning case. They are the same case internally. The most notable gains are the ability to raise your engine as high as you can and still have decent water pressure and come off plane satisfactorily. You could add a low water pickup and help your cause on the standard case, but this can be expensive. I've got a real nice H.O. housing here that you could transfer your internals over to it, but the skeg is damaged and would require some attention. I would try raising the engine first and see what this does, then go from there.

    Thanks fellas,

I am just infected with having my 200 ram rude matching the top speed in the outlaw/200 hp merc combo which is 80 gps. I have the right prop now with the 27 Razor 3 so I'll get some numbers up this week with the magnum gearcase. It ran 77 with an unworked Tempest 27 so Mark thinks i might gain 2 or 3 depending on conditions. Have a Detwiler so i can dial it in on the fly. We shall see.........
