Try adjusting the cable. Take the shifter cable loose and shift manually into reverse to eliminate the cable. If it will go into reverse manually, you may have to spin prop to get it to engage, then manually shift to neutral, and loosen the trunion lock and adjust cable to fit, then lock it back down and try it.
Verify that the cable isn't broken
like bassmiester sad check that shifter cable if you have it screwed to far down it wont allow the shifter to push down on the gear shifter inside the lower unit turn the shifter counter clockwise about 6 or seven turnes then push down to see if it goes into reverse if not you would have to take apart the lower unit and inspect it worn clutch or reverse i have some gears if you need some 770 7159738 juan
