I'm looking at a 1998 175 faststrike. Compression is 93-95 on all six. Is this bad?
Don't want to buy a bad motor. Thanks!

Should be just fine, a decarb with BRP tuner would not hurt.
What's that?
Decarb is cleaning the carbon outta the engine, especially around the rings, to keep 'em from sticking. Get a can of Engine Tuner from your local dealer and follow directions on the can. BUT, don't do it on the driveway, cuz it will turn black!!!
So I should be ok on buying the motor?
Yep I'd buy it as long and the comp checks out and you hear it run.

Very importantly, how does it run, there could be costly electrical problems that needs to be addressed. Can you give it a test drive?

If you can't run with the big dogs, just stay on the porch.

All 6. Just sounded low to me but I don't
Know anything about motors.
These aren't high compression engines and they run on regular fuel. If I was in the market for it and it ran good, I'd buy it and decarb it, then decarb it once a year or every 100 hours for long life.![]()
