    Thermostat Question

I have a question about thermostats on my 90 Johnson GT200. I am still having a issue with a high end mis and sometimes lack of power. I finally got some time away from work today and pulled the thermostats out to take a look at them. After pulling them out I found one that was broken. See attached pic.

I looked up the thermostats and looks like you can get the assembly part #104,, 0394409. but I also see a thermostat cap listed (0330273 part $48) listed and don't see them in the engine. What is the purpose of the cap?Does it just act as a washer for sealing? The valve seat is in there (0320880 part #49). I am also going to order the thermostat diaphragm (part#0394408 part # 45) Is there a reason someone would have taken them out? Also could this explain the high end mis and lack of power I have been experiencing?

    Re: Thermostat Question (89 hydrasport)

Picture is too small for me to see on my laptop. Can you try and re-size it?

Look at the 1991 200 you remove both seals on the heads and replace them with #48 336416 (2) #45 diaphragm 394408 (2) and T stats # 434137 new salt shaker style. This will help with your cooling not so sure it will help the miss but will keep the temps down.

Ok. So this is a newer better style than the parts I have listed?

    Re: Thermostat Question (89 hydrasport)

Your white plastic thermostats are over 20 years old and were "recalled" way back then for sticking inside the rubber grommet and overheating the motor. The new ones are black with a rounded nose on them.

Inspect the rubber grommets inside the head for being out of round or distorted and replace if needed.

    On another note,
Please resize your photos to a more manageable size such as 800 by 600 pixels so as not to disrupt the formatting on this page and making everyone use the scroll bars to read the posts.

    Thanks.

Ok.. Thank you for the Info.

Sorry about the picture size. It fit my small laptop without having to use the scroll bar, that is why I used that size

Just resize the pics to 800 by 600 and repost them, please. Photobucket makes it real easy to do by clicking on the resize menu and choosing 800 by 600.
