98 Johnson 150 Water Separating Fuel Filter

Looking for a good water separating fuel filter for my 98 Johnson 150 J150ELEC. I going to pre-mix fuel and no VRO. I have been looking at Sierra model 18-7951 with the collection bowl. http://www.amazon.com/Sierra-I...BUW8G Any suggestions on a filter setup? I would like to have a clear collection bowl but I haven't seen a clear one that is USCG approved for mounting under the deck. The one in the link actually has a metal bowl. Any guidance would be appreciated.

BRP makes a kit, Moeller makes a kit, Racor makes a kit.

Thanks for the reply ChampioNman. I looked in my service manual and it calls for the fuel filter to have no more than .4 inches of HG drop in flow at 20 gallons per hour. I looked at the Racor site and their filters have too much pressure drop to meet that spec. The service manual calls for OMC filter kit 174176 which uses OMC filter 502905 from what I can tell. The replacement Racor for that filter S3214 has a pressure drop of .6 psi which is 1.22 inches of HG. Way above the OMC spec. Either I am very confused or the Racor filter is not a good choice even though the general consensus is that it is the best filter made. What gives?

don't worry about the restriction whether it is.4 or .6. It is the overall vacuum in the system that is of concern. A healthy fuel system with a quality anti-siphon valve plus a spin on filter will be about 3" Hg at WOT. If it gets above 3.5", the max factory value is 4", then problems start to occur with ethanol fuels.

Thanks Seahorse. So I guess I could check my fuel system's vacuum after the install to make sure I am not hurting anything. I would like to go with the 30gph racor. Will 30 GPH be enough fuel flow?

Just buy either the BRP style spin-on or the Merc/Yamaha style then you can use either the inexpensive spin-on filters or the appropriate Racor kit with the blue bowl for draining water out. Don't pay the high bucks for the complete Racor system as then you are stuck with only buying the expensive filters, plus the bracket corrodes quickly in salt water.
