only the highest catastrophic failure rate of the big 3.
failed injectors, melted pistons. other than that they're ok.

unlike the tugboat motor diehards that can't wait for the bar to open, we service all the big 3 so i know where the problems are.

Nothing wrong with a cocktail now and then. Maybe you should have one yourself and help your sour outlook. And Gilly you should really try and not bash the poor Mercury owners calling them tugboat motors.

Gilly, My 03 DI is still screaming like a raped ape!! And I like to run her hard!!! Me thinks the main difference in running and failed engines is the Tech that set her up to begin with.............................................. ...JMHO

My 04 225 HO was also screaming along....until suddenly it wasn't thanks to a melted piston. Cause likely a bad injector. Had a gearcase replaced under warranty too. And not because I fail to look after or abuse this thing, it has been very well taken care of. Can't say whether these motors fail more frequently that other brands but they all fail at some rate. Just finished the rebuild, hopefully she'll run great for another 5 yrs.

don't confuse sour with reality. yes, the 3 litre stuff is close to tugboat status.

No confusion on my part, I do know of 3 Pro XS's in the last week that have gone bye,bye and they are all 2008, 2009. So it isn't just bad coils.

If rudes are so bad why does it take only one forum to post problems, and merc has three forums that stay busy with problems?I just dont know I've had three omc motors and two mercs one being an opti and it cost more to keep the opti up than all three rudes and one of them is the so called bad ficht motor thats really been the cheapest to operate.

because they sell 10 times more and a lot of the questions are about 2.0, 2.4, 2.5 engines that are 20+ years old.

You guys are to funny. Sound like third graders saying oh ya I TRIPLE DOG dare you. Go ahead just keep it up and you will both get a time out.

In my totaly uneducated opinion BRP makes the best motors on the water. My 05 has around 550 hours on it and has had very few issues. No magor breaks. I run it like a race car on xd 100. I will for sure buy another when this one dies.

You know they may sell 10 times more, some people are die hard fans and never learn, and continue to buy'em every few years when they wear out or pop, where as the rudes just last and don't need to be replaced,I guess you could compare'em to that little EverReady bunny
