    Z20/21 Windshield rigidity

Hey guys. Putting together a new Z20 as we speak. A buddy of mine says he has had some cracking problems on the windshields due to the sharper edges. Has anyone had this problem? My old Z8 had nice rounded windshields so I never had a problem with them. I'm thinking of vinyl wrapping them to add a little more protection, might look kind of cool to. What do you guys think? My 16 Z21 I’ve replaced one from breaking and saw cracks near where the mounting holes are. The breakage was due to partner grabbed it for stability as he lost balance bringing net to front, so not a usual occurrence. They are black and for cosmetics only (you can’t see through them), I took off and used black gorilla tape for support on back side near edges, this also allowed a cushion at the mounting holes.

A wrap on front be nice, but don’t think the vinyl alone would provide any additional rigidity.

I had to use rubber washers to keep mine from cracking but, I haven't had a problem since.

I read same issues with windshields mostly trouble if covered and hauling. I had read a post on FB and it helped with mine making those crack noises. I purchased 16 rubber washers at Lowes and added them on both sides of the windshield. It reduced the noise and added some additional flex if needed. Also should help with them coming loose and or over tightening them. Just a idea and it cost me like $8.00 and 10 minutes of my day.

I have not noticed it. I think over tightening will cause cracking. Something I always check when i take delivery of the boat, and almost every trip. Just got into the habit.

The new covers fit tight across consoles and that can cause cracking if you tow with them on.

The rubber washer idea is prolly the best advice to prevent ant possible cracking and any noise.

Use these. The problem with the windshield cracking on my boat was the insert wasn't drilled in exact alignment with the angle of the windshield so, just the corner of the screw was touching plastic.

Thanks guys. Think we"ll give the washers a try when the boat comes in. Also, has anyone tried to wrap these windshields? I'm wondering with the funky divets in them if it is a challenge to do so?
