    Garmin 2006C Lost Depth Readout

I have a 2006C with a CSD20 sounder and an Airmar 744v through hull transducer. The depth readout has been working since I bought the boat and suddenly the depth froze on 5.7 feet and and now the readout shows 2 dashes, a dot and 1 dash. The water temp and speed readouts are normal. The sounder box shows a steady 1 second green flashing light. Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated.

Unplug every thing and look for loose, corroded connections or kinked, rubbed, broken, crushed cables, etc.

Is that a "shoot through" hull or one that sticks through a hole in the hull? If its shoot through, be sure its still attached well and/or still has fluid in the box if its that type. Check the connections at that end too if it has any.

Then try power cycle and factory reset.

Power cycle = turn off, wait a bit, then turn on. Probably wont help in your case, but sometimes in the field it can fix things.

Garmin says the transducer is bad because the depth readout is gone, it does not show any fish symbols or bottom contour on the sonar page. Any thoughts?

Could be, but did you check the things I suggested?

You didnt say what kind of thru-hull transducer it was. If its an in-hull transducer and the mounting has come loose (no longer attached to the hull) or the fluid is gone, you will get the same results. Also, a broken wire or corroded connector can cause the same issues. Any of those things could be an easy fix.

Larry, yes I tried your suggestions, thank you, transducer is a through hull unit with a 2" hole through the hull and a fairing. On the GSD 20 sounder box the green light flashes for 1 second on and 1/2 second off which indicates a good connection to a 1 unit head-the 2006C. I checked all the wiring that I could access and I sprayed contact cleaner on the plugs. The sounder page only shows water temp and not any fish symbols or bottom contour.
    Thanks again

If all the wiring looks good, then they are probably right that it is dead. Could still be a broken wire in the cable, but thats going to be hard to trace down.

Thats a pretty out dated unit. You going to up-grade the whole thing or try a new transducer?

A new Airmar B744V-6G that was recommended by Airmar is about $300 and then I still have an old unit so I will shop around and research a new unit. Thank you for your help.
