Depth color shading screwy with upgrade 4.10 and 2017.1 lake map on 73sv CHIRP

I upgraded the software on my 73sv CHIRP to 4.10 and the Lake map to 2017.1 followed by resetting the setting to the defaults. I set the depth shading for a different color for every 5' depth up to 20' then 10' increments, but the fishing map doesn't match the set colors and the navigation map doesn't show any color past 10' depth. This is without being out on the water, but I didn't think it mattered when viewing the charts. Has anyone else observed this behavior?

I think I understand what you are saying and if so my map does the same thing. I set up the color shading to be green for the depth range I want to focus on and the green doesn't even come close to following the contour lines that correspond to that depth range. That's what I see looking at your map. Mine looks much worse than yours.

I thought something was off the first time I went out after doing my up-dates, but I was distracted playing with a new trolling motor. I'll have to power mine up again and check it out more closely.

Ok, depth shading is screwy on my 7610 with the newest software and 2017.1 maps.

Depth shading doesnt work at all on the Nav map unless you have QuickDraw contours turned on. There is a shallow shading option which sort of works but its not consistent. It doesnt follow the contours very well and just doesnt show up at all in some places - which is dangerous.

On the fishing map, the depth shading works - sort of - but doesnt follow the contours very well and is also very inconsistent. Some depth shades just dont show up at all in some places and do in others.

Also, the depth shading only works on lakes - not in marine waters.

I sure hope this is a software problem with the mfd and not the maps themselves. Updating the mfd's is free and relatively easy. Maps not so much....

I started a thread on THT about this issue. Maybe we can get Garmins attention....

    Here is what I'm seeing

Not very helpful. Apparently they don't use an algorithm that will follow a specific contour line.

7610. I fish a lot of steep banks for walleye. Sometimes when they are inactive, they will spread out at a specific depth against and hold tight against the side of a wall. This trip it was at 60 ft. So I set the shading to be 15-60 green and 60-90 turquoise. If the mapping worked correctly, then I would have a clear marker of exactly where 60 ft would be. It is zoomed all the way in, again, so that I can isolate on this specific depth. Being zoomed in shows how erratic the depth shading is. When you have the map zoomed out, the amount of error may not be so noticeable. That the shading is so rectangular shows that their algorithm is not tied to a contour line. For this purpose just being able to select one contour line and make it bold or a different color would be especially helpful. We were still able to catch fish by jigging through were they were holding.
