Question Removing Auto Clearcoat and Re-gel topcap- Have a question

I've got a TR-21. The previous owner autocleared the topcap and it was peeling off in sheets. I have gotten 95% (will be 100% today or tomorrow) of the clear removed from the cap. While removing the clear, the gel over the flake must have been super thin. I silvered a lot (in patches) of the flake.

The flake is Triton's "Cherry Apple Red" it's red mixed with black. Would I be able to flake over the silver and cover it??? Do I need to cover the silvered flake with the base color (black) and then flake over it? That's what I'm leaning toward... Should I just gel the topcap black and re-flake totally?

    Cotherman,
Your best repair will be to Apply the black gelcoat and then go through your metal flake steps. Because you have opened the flake already yo will end up with a very textured finish even with aplying 8 to twelve mills of gelcoat. Gelcoat will also help to close up any other small imperfections you may have. I re gelled my 1985 skeeter hull and experienced texture on the lower where i sanded through into the metallic.

Thanks! I'd rather do it right than do it again!
