rod to throw 1/2oz swim jigs

What would you recommend for throwing 1/2oz swim jigs.Looking for something to handle the jig/trailer weight through grass while still being able to work/shake the jig with the rod tip.

I’m really impressed with the Megabass P5 Daemos for 1/2oz moving baits such as swim jigs, spinnerbaits and jackhammers. Super light, well balanced and crazy sensitive.

What type line are you planning to use, and do you have a preference for rod length?

7'3" to 7'6" heavy is the standard here in Florida for moderate to heavy cover. After trailer a half ounce jig will be pushing close to 1oz.

Yep easily, especially with say a Keitech SIF 4.8". I prefer braid + leader and a heavy power mod-fast or regular fast tapered rod in the 7'2" - 7'9" range for fishing this weight swimjig and in weeds.

Thanks guys. I'm currently using a Falcon Cara H Amistad with 17lb Tatsu so it sounds like I should stick with what I got.I feel the tip is not ideal but I can make it work.

Unless you're Alabama shakin' you really don't need much tip anyway. A steady reel with the tip at 3 to 5 o'clock how I fish them.

I am throwing the new 7'4 Heavy Poison Adrena into the ring. I love this rod for 1/2oz+ spinnerbaits and chatterbaits on 16-18#FC! It has a softer tip which allows very accurate casting but good backbone and power to fight bigger fish easily.

Just this Saturday I caught this ~7lb catfish on it on a spinnerbaits. Zero problems in landing the fish.

I actually just sold this rod. I like the blank but just could not get used to the handle.

I use the following rod for that:

    Daiwa Tatula Elite
    TTEL741MHRB-G (Glass rod)
7.4" MH that loads up nicely and works with spinnerbaits, swimjigs, and chatter baits

Been fishin' since I was 5 years old...Thanks Grandpa!

ALX Toadface gets my vote for swim jigs. I have 3 and a couple are over 6 years old and have taken an absolute beating and are still great sticks. It also helps that ALX uses the best hook keeper in the business.

Two rods that fish extremely well, have excellent fit and finish, good sensitivity and load up fairly deep with excellent backbone, and have tips that are very agile and strong enough for your 1/2 swimjigs + trailer: Evergreen Combat II, 7'2" MH Moving Bait Versatile and 7'7" MH Moving Bait Versatile. I use my 7'7" with 30lb braid for 3/8-1/2 oz swimjigs + 4-5" paddletails in sparse to medium grass and also for larger 100 sized topwaters...I switch to non-braid for 1/2-3/4 oz lipless over grass.

Yeppers. The tips on both of these models are made for imparting frantic movements on the Shower Blows, but the mod-fast+ taper and MH+ backbone works well with swimjigs, spinnerbaits and buzzbaits as well.
