SD card recognition

New Apex 13 delivered with V 4.190 I have tried V 4.210 and 5.060 on micro SD card. Formatted etc and still not found by the device. I have it loaded to my phone, but its such a big jump I don't trust it to run 8+ hrs I do have things on a 13.8v regulated DC power supply...

Did you check the Files widget for the software and try the update from there?

That is the correct file name.
Some possible issues:
1. memory card is too large--max 32 GB
2. corrupt download--delete it and re-download

I started with a 4gb card and thought that could be the issue. Tried a 32gb and same result. Even formatted both quick and long. method. There's no prerequisite step between 4.190 and 5.060 that I'm missing is there?

formatted to fat32? That was my issue

The Solix g-3 has the same step of 4.210 before. I had to do that one to get to current. I just looked at the Apex and it shows the same.

One thing that I noticed is that I can hear this unit run. Kind of a hum of sorts. Never heard anything from any of my other units.

The Apex and Solix G3 units have an internal cooling fan which you can hear. The previous units did not have that. It's normal to hear the fan noise.

Good to know that they have a fan. My Solix G1 was definitely better on cool days.

I am thinking that I might try to load from the APP while on charge cord. Possibly from phone or also possibly from tablet.

It has been suggested that I need to get a SanDisk card and preferably 16 gig. I did the FAT 32 format and I did try 4.210 also but it just does not want to recognize anything

No need to use s specific brand of card. Also, a 16GB card isn't going to work any differently than a 32GB card. It just need to be 32 GB or less and formatted FAT32.

I have seen several strange situations in this regard over the past month. I went through a sequence of failures and I ended up (through desperation) downloading all related updates to my Ipad-pro using an SD drive adapter and everything worked! Don’t ask me why but it worked. I think there are still other unresolved updates around and it almost looks like there is something strange going on with the updates. No proof, just observation. I had called for help but no answer forthcoming I tried the ipad. Good luck. Bob
Addemdom: I started from scratch- full format on all chips. etc. through Acrobat. new downloads.(tried that on PC also (no joy) then to Ipad.

The card that I was trying to use was new. I had used it initially to fire up my new Garmin, but it was the only one that I knew of at my disposal. So, I pulled it from the Garmin and formatted it and tried it. I formatted it several times and still wouldn't go. On the drive home I got to thinking where the rest of my little micro cards were and it dawned on me that they were in my Garmin Nuvi GPS that I use on the snowmobiles. I pulled one of those, formatted it, and put version 4.210 on it and it recognized it just fine. I can only guess that maybe Garmin did some sort of encryption that didn't allow the humminbird access. Formatting multiple times quick and long, NTFS, and back to FAT 32 did not work.

As for the order of loading updates, the app was going to take me directly to 5.060 so I don't know that. 4.210 is a prerequisite any longer?

My Solix G3 won’t read SD cards after the latest platform update. Called HB to make a case and never heard back from them.

When I installed 5.06 to my Solix I had some trouble getting it to load from my SD card. Good card that I have used several times. Was loading the update from our desk top(piece of junk) and it wouldn't upload. I finally loaded the update onto my SD card using my tablet. Worked like a champ. I have an adapter that lets me load SD cards from my phone or tablet. I assume that the SD drive has issues on my desktop. I will add that the update did seem to run long

There is a known issue with the VX series map cards not being recognized in slot #1. I can't help but think there is more to this and that they are somehow related.
