Ultrex replacement prop is tight when spun by hand

    Hey all,

I have a 45 inch shaft 24v ultrex and I replaced the trolling motor prop due to wear and tear. I replaced it with the same prop that came on it from the factory. The MKP 33. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong? I put the old one back on and it spins fine. Everything else lines up and is in place where it needs to be. Since it’s a brand new prop, is it normal when putting the washer and the lock nut on to be stiff when spun by hand? Also, the old one has a touch of play in it if I pull it back from the housing. Please let me know what all I can do. Or if im overthinking things.

    Thanks,

    G

First off make sure you have the right pin for that motor. It takes a large pin. Put the props side by side and see if the shroud that is on the motor side of the prop is all the way secured on the prop. If there is a difference get a new prop or put the onld one back on. This prop has an issue.

A slight clicking feeling is normal (brush to armature) not sound but feeling. I should not spin freely.

Minn Kotas new props have a bigger lip or cup that slides onto the housing. Almost twice the size of the original one. Waiting for Minn Kota to call me back

The prop will often rub on the housing. My old ultrex had a big alum shiny spot ground in it.

I always take my new props and slide them around on the cement to grind some equally off the back of them until they clear.

Something I would expect to see on a 3rd party prop, not OEM.! I would hope people have been demanding a good prop from MK. That is not acceptable! I have not had to replace a prop for 25 years (fish are deep here at Bull shoals) Gman, please let us know what they say. Bob

Minn Kota got back with me today. Apparently during packaging the prop intended for the 112 lb thrust Ultrex was getting labeled and packaged as a prop intended for the 80 lb thrust Ultrex. They “identified” the problem and the product team has “resolved” the issue with only a “limited” number of incorrectly packaged props. *♂️ *♂️. I’d honestly love to know the ballpark number of props that are mislabeled/packaged, whatever. Because I can’t and couldn’t find the right one I needed. Thank god it’s taken care of now. Not that I was looking for a pat on the back but a simple thank you would have been nice from Minn Kota. Not trying to sell me the prop that I needed *♂️ I literally laughed out loud when they tried to charge me for the correct prop.
