2008 vmax hpdi series 2 250 cuts in and out when getting on plane

I run a 2008 Skeeter 20i. 250 vmax vz250ftlr. When I try and get on plane, if I punch the throttle it cuts in and out and eventually gets on plane, if I feather the throttle to get on plane, it doesn't cut out quite as much. Replaced my primer bulb and fuel lines last year, as well as the fuel water separator and the small fuel filter on the port side of the outboard. Any ideas? I have 2 of the low pressure fuel pumps I was going to install anyways. But does anyone know what the issue could be?

I knew someone that had a similar issue on one of those motors and his was the diaphragm for what I think was the high pressure fuel pump. I helped him replace it and it was a pretty easy job. One thing I remember about it was the new part we were installing had better reinforcement built into it. So it appeared they had already realized it was going to be an issue and made an adjustment to the part.

My 2009 200 goes in the shop next week for the same thing. When i explained what was happening to the tech, the first thing he mentioned was the diaphram in the fuel pump. Evidently they are known to fail.

Yes, there is alot of things it could be. But of you have done the general maintenance they should have been changed out quite a few times already. Personally if I still had them they would get serviced every 2 years. Cj

Just curious but are y'all referring to the diaphrams in the low pressure pumps?

Yes, 2 with the HPDI if I remember correctly. Too lazy to go look at the 300hp in the pole barn! Cj

I replaced both low pressure fuel pumps and still having same issue.... When you jack on the hot foot for hole shot, right as it's getting ready to come down it cuts in and out a few times the. It's fine. Or if you gently get into the hot foot it'll settle onto plane and wont cut in and out at all
