    Any mercury pro xs problems?

Has any of the 4 stroke motors had issues? Specially 250 and 300 pro xs.
Example, Seen some info on some breaking loose and flying in or off the boat, and recommend getting a leash. Is that a thing or some rare instance. Been fixed by mercury? Etc etc.

People who hit some underwater object doing 60+ mph need a leash, others not so much. I doubt any motors broke free from bad parts/engineering, or the like, of any manufacturer.

99.9% of any motor breaking loose and flying in or off the boat is caused by hitting a submerged object. With all motor hardware fasteners torqued to a sound transom, and running in deep enough water with no obstructions, that motor isn't coming off.

The motor isn’t coming off unless you hit something going at a high rate of speed. just check all your transom/Jack plate bolts once a year to make sure everything is tight, things can vibrate loose.

    ^^^^ This.

Bassin31: To answer your question, ABSOLUTELY. As a matter of fact, in 48 years the only ones I've seen "never have any problems" were the ones never taken out of the crate.

That said- very few problems, and since these engines have now been out for more than 7 years, most anything that would have been a problem has long since been addressed.

Fillow up. Seen a video by apparently a somewhat popular channel on YouTube. (Some service center) discussing this. Says it's a problem with mercury 4s motors. Also seem to just have happened at the bassmaster open at ky lake.
Gives me concerns, especially since didn't seem to be as often seen in the optimax yrs and current SHOs.
    Solution is a leash?

This can literally happen with any outboard, and the issue has been around a lot longer than merc 4s's. I wouldent fixate on Mercury. I even flipped a Johnson 9.9 off the back of the boat into my lap fishing in canada one year hitting a just under the surface rock at speed (keep them thumb screws tight). Had another guy do it at the same lake 2 years later, but it flipped into the water on him. Had to pay the outfitter for the motor/recovery on that trip.

Thanks zone, informative. Guess some folks may just be pointing out mercury lately.
Anyone make a leash beside precision sonar?

Another factor to consider is the overall numbers of engines in a particular brand that you'll find in the marketplace.

Without getting into a brand-battle, there's a LOT of boats running Merc's, especially in the fishing circuits.

The only issues I know of with the 250/300 Pro XS and it's not really an issue, need to change the spark plugs every 100 hours. They had a few other very minor things early on but they fixed all of those.
