    08 Nitro z7 hooked hull

Hi, I'm looking at buying an 08 Nitro z7 with a mercury 150 efi. The boat is in excellent shape with only 160 hrs on the motor and 2 owners. My only worry is, does it have a hooked hull. Were the 08's very prone to this? He stated the boat rides good and does about 50 mph which is thought seemed kinda slow

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Most of the scuttle butt revolving around hooked hulls was BS anyway. A lot of hulls were even designed with this hook...normally called rocker.

Hook isn't rocker, but I wouldn't worry about it unless it's visible.

It isn't perfectly flat it had two little low spots looking from back to front, not on the pad but between the runners. I put a straight edge on that part and it had a gap about 1/2 of the end of my finger.

Is what the old guys always called it when I was a kid. They told me some boats were designed like that so they would get up on plane and cruse level at slow speeds. These guys also drank a lot of beer and tried to get you to go snipe hunting too so...theres that.

    I wouldn't buy a Z7 with just a 150 on it, that hull needs a 200hp.

And how many years were the Z7's rated for a 200?

2 Model years to be exact, and if I am remembering right it was changed back mid model year 2011. 08 I believe was rated for a 150 max HP. went to 200 in like 2010 time frame, after 2011 back to 150. The z18 may have been the introduction of the 175 Mx HP.

"But you should not buy a boat without 200", Since its rated for a 150 on most of them.

Needs a 200 regardless, it was dumb to rate them for a 150hp. You can get a new rating plate.

If your worried about it don't buy it... the needs a 200 comment is kinda funny.

Hook is usually built into the outside of the hull, furthest from the keel, to help holeshot.

That's the thing, I'm just not really sure. I'd never even heard of a hooked hull until I started researching the nitros when this boat came available. I'm fairly new to larger glass boats. Just hoping to get some feedback that may be beneficial to my decision.

PM Bass Cat and he can educate you. I have no idea what it is and would not buy a boat until I was sure.

Most commenting don't understand what a "hook" is on a hull. That is a reference to the center running surface area, and not the outside of the hull. The outside of the hull may have some plane wedging and all sorts of enhancements.

Maybe we can get a sticky put at the top of the page of what boats PatriotAW4 approves of. It sure would save people alot of time and effort when searching for a boat.

One that's not underpowered would be a good start. People can buy whatever they want but don't say I didn't warn you.

Yet you have a 19 ft boat with a 150.....a 150 is PLENTY for that boat

My Skeeter is shorter, narrower and lighter than the Z7 and yes it absolutely is under powered with the 150 that is on it. If I decide to keep it I will be tuning the motor to a 230 hp by Nizpro.
