    2024 College Football Playoff scenario.

This could actually happen but I don't think it would be very popular with the college football fans. Note.......I'm only using these two teams as examples.

Next year the SEC will not have divisions. The top two teams will play for the SEC Championship. Georgia and Alabama will play each other in the regular season. Let's say Georgia wins it and goes undefeated again and bama only has that one loss so they meet up in the SEC Championship game. Say bama wins it and both wind up in the 12 team playoffs. Depending on the seeding, they could very well meet up again in the National Championship game. I think that would be worse than a team getting left out like FSU was this year.

Good chance it will happen with Ohio St and Michigan. Certainly dilutes the regular season game.

They will both lose in the regular season. The committee however will circumvent the playoff and common sense, like normal, and have them play each other 6 times.

THIS! laugh out loud funny! But probably not that much of an exaggeration. LOL. Thanks for the laugh ou1dadgumit. As an FSU fan, I needed a good laugh this morning. But to be clear, I'm not one of the fans that needs to be talked off the ledge, not accusing anyone of cheating, etc... Accept and move on.

There's going to be many flaws exposed in the first year that I'm sure they'll try to fix in the next. The same scenario could just as easily happen with Michigan and Ohio St. I'm sure the fans of those teams wouldn't mind multiple match ups in a year because they're deep rivals, but everyone else like you mentioned will be over it real quick.

The saving grace may be that teams like Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, and Ohio st appear to actually have a stronger schedule next year which is something new and may take care of the problem.
Georgia has Alabama and Texas back to back.
Alabama has a mean run of good sec teams starting with Georgia.
Michigan gets Texas in week 2 then has to get through Washington and Oregon before reaching Ohio St.
Ohio St from the looks of it will have the weakest schedule of the 4.

With all these schools jumping from one conference to another, why doesn't the NCAA just create 8 legit super conferences for football. Win your conference, get an invite to the dance for National Championship..?? Heck, geography, traditions and rivalries have already evaporated.

What rivalries and traditions does adding the incoming teams to the SEC and Big10 evaporate? What rivalries other than the Apple Cup are we losing? Oh by the way, you’re getting 4 rivalry games back. And the geography problem is the PAC12s doing. But they have “traditionally” been tied to the Big10 anyway through the Rose Bowl. I’d go look at the future schedule before we start assuming there are going to be a bunch of 0 or 1 loss teams. Me thinks most the folks complaining about this are upset they are losing the monopoly on talent and selective scheduling.

Both Washington and Washington State agreed to keep playing each other through at least 2028. The only rivalry game that is up in the air at this point is Oregon and Oregon St.

I just read on On3 where Oregon and O State are finalizing details to keep that game on the schedule indefinitely

Yes, i think so. The NCAA probavly loves it because they are big games that lots of people watch. It ones of the reasons for the expanded playoffs, more big matchups=more$$$$

I have zero desire to see "traditional rivals" play each other on the last weekend of the season and then follow it up the next weekend in a conference championship game. I'm hoping that the conf champ games disappear after the first year of the 12 team playoff.

That would be horrible. Best 2 out of 3 or even worse yet one team loses twice to the other but then wins the third time they play.

The main issue I have with the conference realignment doesn't really have as much to do with football as it does the lesser revenue-generating sports. Now the girls basketball team, softball team, etc. from Cal, Stanford, etc. will have to travel to the East Coast to play games and vice versa. What is that going to do to those programs?

Two teams have played each other 3 times during a season? I can't remember it if it has.

Does anyone know if the Big 10 is going to stay in divisions? That is the conference that needs to get rid of divisions in the worst way.

The winner of the Big 10 west has about the same bragging rights as a homeschooled valedictorian.

At least the SEC has competitive teams on both sides of the conference.
