    05 HPDI 250 and NMEA

    I have a 05 HPDI 250 VZ250TLR
I’ve read that some 05 HPDI’s came with NMEA 2000 compatibility and some did not
How would I determine if mine is one that is compatible or not
Looking for motor temp more than anything else but curious what other data maybe available
    Last if this isn’t 2k compatible can I use a 0183 network?

    A VZ250TLR is not a 2005 year model motor. A 2005 model year motor would be a VZ250TLRD.

What is the complete serial number of your motor?

    NOTE
Boats.net shows a 2005 VZ250TLR in their parts list and has been what I reference when ordering parts

BUTT the motor did come on a 2006 Skeeter

Look for the connector on the driver's side of the engine. Mine is white, and was just laying there with the other wires. My boat had the 0183 network so I just cut the plug off of the interface cable and spliced in a 0183 connector and it works just fine. Worst part is snaking it through the rigging tube!

The boats.net website is not telling the complete story. Better to be getting part numbers from the Yamaha US website. Where if you plug in your specific serial number it will take you directly to the parts catalog for your model/serial number. www.yamahaoutboards.com

The first VZ250 model with Command Link capability was 60X L 1002505. Your serial number being later is telling that your specific model can output NMEA 2000 data.

    Thank you

Now comes the question beside the standard NMEA backbone network what adapter or kit do I need to connect the motor to that network

There is a lot of confusing information out there from you only need the adapter cable to you need the $300 command link plus

You need an NEMA 2000 network. Then you need a Lowrance 0120-37 cable (or equivalent) to get data from the engine to the network.

You don't need no stinkin' Gateway. Just like the diagram illustrates.

If a Gateway was needed I would have included it in the diagram.

Honestly I’ve seen this image and it doesn’t clear up the confusion for me

Is the Yamaha Command Link Command Link Plus in that image just the plug or is it the following part that plugs into the motor?
    https://www.simyamaha.com/command-li...a2d0-12-00kit/

Can I just buy the Lowrance Yamaha Engine Interface Cable

Note I have both Garmin and Humminbird graphs that except N2K data

    Why the confusion?

You have the NMEA 2000 network you say. Just buy the darn Lowrance cable or equivalent. Connect one end to the motor and the other end to your network. Voila. You will have engine data on your MFD.

Well its not just plug and play with the Lowrance adapter cable on a motor this old

The first photo is the Lowrance plug and in the second photo is the nmea plug in the motor
As you can see they are not the same and the one on the motor has little plugs inserts in each connector hole

I’ve spent some time on the web looking for a cable with the same type of plug the motor has and no luck

    Any suggestions?
Do I need to make something or does someone know of an adapter that works

That is a cap on the connector. Remove the cap and then make the connection.
