HDS 8 gen 2 insight Can I get a good mapping upgrade ?

I bought a boat and it came with a hds 8 gen 2 insight. Is there any way to upgrade the maps that came on it ? I didn’t know if there was a chip or something I can buy that would show creek channels and contours of the lakes like navionics or something similar? If there is how do you upgrade it. I found all kinds of info on newer lowrance but the older gen 2 I can’t find much info on. Thanks in advance.

On my buddies HDS 8 gen 2, I put my C-Map Reveal SD card in one of the card slots and it shows contours and will allow contour shading. C-Map does not work on HDS 8 Gen 1.

According to the CMap website HDS Gen 2 touch will not show HRB so that would be all your 1 ft contours, Does it show 1 ft contours on your buddies HDS 8 gen 2?

You have two full size SD card slots each with a max 32gig. You can use a Navionics East card. Check with your buddies to see which version is best for the lakes you fish.

I fish mostly lakes in Indiana so if I get this card and throw it in the sd card slot? Anything else to do or does it do it automatically and show up on your maps?

C-Map Reveal does show 1' contours on the HDS 8 Gen2.SD 1-.jpg

C-Maps Reveal card US Lakes North Central "NA-Y212" will include Indiana. Insert card in SD slot and it will show "Loading maps" on boot up. Then you will get a message if you want to switch maps to NA Y212. Choose yes to use C-Map. You still can toggle back to Insight. Wacky Riggers a good video on how to do the custom shading.

Stump location may not show on small lakes, but they show on bigger ones. The small ones may have not been surveyed/mapped for structure.
