Garmin force heading lock turns off?

I launched my new force yesterday , all was great . What a difference from a Minnkota 101 .
My question is if it is working correctly.
I set the heading lock and it seemed to work just fine BUT if I touched the pedal to adjust the heading it turns off
    and needs to be reset.
My buddy has an ultrex and we use this feature quite a bit. We set speed and heading lock and as the bank changes we can just move the
heading with the pedal and now it is a new heading.
On My force it turns the heading lock feature off as soon as a pedal adjustment is made.

Is this normal for the force?

Unfortunately its normal and a silly thing. I want to say someone stated that garmin said it was designed that way as a safety feature? I tend to use the remote and point to where I want to go instead of using the pedal for that feature.

That would be a deal breaker for me if I were to upgrade to a newer troller . I use the auto pilot a lot on my Ultrex, and am frequently making small changes to my heading.

    Well... Darn the bad luck.
What a terrible oversight by Garmin. With all the other features to compare, it is hard to ask every question before buying.
Seems such a simple thing but a VERY useful one and will be missed for my style of fishing.

I use the heading lock a lot including today. I use the remote keys to make adjustments if needed. Even if going down a bank throwing a moving bait a simple couple of clicks on the remote around my neck is easy. The first year I had the force I rarely used the remote. This year I greatly appreciate the feature it is. Sitting at the console watching side view you can use the heading holding feature to maneuver around the contour of the bank with adjustments made by the remote.

Its interesting that you can make changes with the remote but not the footpedal..a software update would fix the problem.

If the people from Garmin monitor this board at all, that could, and should, be in the works.

Older post, but since I just installed a force this weekend I thought I would resurrect it.

Its is probably the one feature I absolutely don't like, and it seems like it should be a software fix. At least give it an option to turn it on or off like a of the other features or selectable like the heading hold option.

Well... yes. Maybe Todd will see this and lean on em to get it done.

Like those above, I use the remote and that works... ok.
