    kill switch

How do I replace the kill switch on my Mercury control. Its a 2001 Nitro with a 250 four stroke. The motor keeps running when I pull the kill switch

Check The simple stuff first. Check that pulling the lanyard indeed trips the switch to the OFF position. It could be the ring on the lanyard is just slipping out without throwing the switch.

I can flip the switch by hand and it still does not kill the motor

Verify that the wires are connected to the keyswitch harness properly. If they are, you'll need to order a replacement switch (picture of control face is recommended), remove old switch and replace with new one.

Need a picture of the control (face and handle). Good question for the Mercury Fourstroke forum.

You'll need to remove the button with the control in FWD, shift to NEUTRAL, remove the handle (in neutral), unbolt the control from the faceplate, remove faceplate from boat side panel, remove retainer clip from backside of faceplate, disconnect wires, remove switch.

Reassembly is the reverse of removal. Liquid loctite is recommended on control to faceplate hardware, and control handle retaining bolt.
