MotorGuide Tour Pro GPS problem and their warranty support...

    Sorry I drop a couple S-bombs wasn't thinking.

This is what my Tour Pro does on EVERY trip! It is only 3 months old. I presently am in touch with a Motorguide authorized service center about my GPS issues. They have contacted Motorguide about a repair. Motorguide is asking that this GPS issue be reproduced at the service center by the technician before they will authorize a warranty repair. The service center owner shared that Minn Kota normally trusts his professional evaluation with regard to repairs and does not require of him what Motorguide is asking. I will keep everyone here on YouTube and Facebook and Bass Boat Central updated as this video is posted to all 3 sites and is being followed by many other MG Tour Pro owners with similar problems.

Well I guess I’m gonna wait for a series 2 before I buy one.

This is disappointing news. Guess I’ll wait until they resolve the reported GPS issues. The main reason for me to replace my perfectly good MG Tour 82 was for the Spotlock capability on the new Tour Pro. I wanted the ability to anchor in place and fish without worrying about my foot being on the pedal all the time, and using the whole boat to fish. Having the ability to control the TM by remote doesn’t do much good when the TM has a mind of its own. OP, Is heat buildup in the head a likely a contributing factor of the GPS issue? You had just mentioned in the video that it was around 11am and getting warm.

J.R., heat buildup or control board failure are my 2 top candidates for the GPS issues I and others are having. It does not seem in my case to be voltage, calibration, cable tension, flipped or crimped cable, etc. I could be wrong and it could be one of these other things or something else entirely, but the fact that it only happens to me after use in hot, full sun has me thinking that heat and the problem are connected.

From first light until it gets hot, the GPS anchor works flawlessly. I have also fished 5-8hrs without GPS issues on an overcast day recently.

I am in touch with Burris Marine in NC as we speak. He has spoken with Mercury and they want him to re-create the issue before they would approve warranty replacement of a control board. He is sending them this video to see if they will accept it as proof to approve the warranty work.

My service center called me this morning to share that MG has approved warranty replacement of my TM circuit board. None are in stock, though, so more waiting.

Hopefully MG recognizes there is a circuit board problem caused by excess heat buildup, and they’ll address it accordingly. Good that you supplied video proof of the issue, and they acknowledged that a problem does exists. At least in some cases.
I don’t know of any similar complaints from other brands of GPS capable trolling motors concerning failures due to heat buildup. I could be wrong. Wait and see at this point for me on a new Tour Pro. It fits my style of fishing (cable steer and Spotlock), and the metal pedal is a must for me.
But, they need to get the (few) bugs worked out in the short term.

So my circuit board in my Tour Pro was replaced last week. I have been out 3 times since and the anchor lock has not messed up once. 2 of the 3 trips were fairly short so I am a little reluctant to say what I know for sure. But it looks like the board replacement fixed my TM.
