New Boat - Ghost vs Minn Kota questions

I will be ordering my new boat (19 TRX) next week and I am looking for some feedback on how the Ghost trolling motor will go through the (thick) weeds? The Minn Kotas I've had or used in the past will go through just about anything. I like a lot of the things the Ghost has to offer and would like to make the switch, just a little concerned as I fish shallow a fair bit where some of the thickest weeds are. Thanks for you help.

Interested to hear feedback from others who have ran both. First of all, congrats on the new boat! My boat came with a Fortrex and while it goes through the weeds well but I'm tired of the creaking Fortrex mount. My last Fortrex did the same thing without constant lubrication of the spring breakaway. The mount issues, the fact the Ultrex still uses a brush style motor, plus I think cable management at the head is a mess with the Ultrex so I bought a Ghost that I will be installing in the next couple weeks. Personally, I think the Ghost is the top of the heap for current trolling motors but maybe I'll be surprised next season.

Just had a new ghost installed. Gonna try to get on water for first time this week. I've been told the ghost has more power. But the factory prop is smaller than minn kota. Supposedly, aftermarket props will be made for the ghost but I haven't been able to locate any yet.

Got out today. The ghost performed great. 3.4mph max on my 21 foot triton. 3.1mph was max with my minn kota. I don't know what people are talking about not liking the foot pedal. Yes it's a little different than cable steer but I had no problem adapting. It is very quiet and responsive. So far I am very glad I made the move. Obviously I didn't have a chance to test it in vegetation due to the time of year but I believe it will power thru.

Not trying to get people upset here. I am just stating what my personal preference is.

I have had both. They both have advantages/disadvantages. I came from several Ultrex's and went to a Ghost. First thing I was very impressed with the power and quietness of the Ghost. After fishing several tournaments with the Ghost I found that I love the power and the quietness but I really dislike the pedal and the lack of direction (the arrow on top is not accurate at all) while fishing with Panoptix. I will be going back to an Ultrex this season as it helps me catch more fish.

I’ve got an ultrex and an open mind
im tired of the annoying vreeeeer vreeeeer when you turn
i still want that cable steer feel
i jumped on a random strangers boat with a garmin......nope—you can definitely tell it’s wireless-the foot pedal was super spongey

then i jumped on another strangers boat with a ghost-it was on a smaller ranger
but man that thing had some power side to side
still felt a little spongey in the foot pedal and i straight away noticed the lag in the directional arrow
i asked him if he tightened up the tension for steering—he had no clue if you even could

ghost was super quiet, super powerful
i hope they can fix that lag in the dir. arrow
and if you can tighten up the steer in that foot pedal i think they really got something

I too am just waiting to try one in the thick grass and see how well it performs as that Ultrex is good in thick veg

I think for now the Ultrex still has the slight edge
i think for now i gotta stick with the vreeeeeer vreeeeeer

Had the ghost you tried been updated to latest software? I have not noticed a lag that bothered me at all. I updated mine to newest software before ever trying.

I do not think the ghost will have trouble with weeds. It has the power. I do hope someone comes out with a larger prop for the ghost as I think this will help with when in vegetation.
