    Baldwins hot water discharge

Baldwin was good on Saturday. I fished for a bit around the hot water discharges, but there was a lot of pressure. I seen several people catch fish. Does anyone catch big fish from those areas? I caught most of my fish away from the discharges and they were better sized. I'm just wondering if maybe the smaller ones move to the hot water and the larger ones avoid it?

Re: Baldwins hot water discharge (Needemp)

For Largemouth, I have caught several fish (3-5 lb range) in the past two years there. The trap/spot bite picks up in the winter and when it warms up outiside fishing the point before the no fishing buoys with a medium diver. A DT10 in parrot color works well. It does get packed in that area on the weekend.

For Smallmouth there is a shelf not too far from the main launch that can usually be productive on Carolina rigs or Texas rigs. Color doesn't really seems to matter.

    Best of luck.

I was there Saturday as well, caught quite a few good fish 2.5-3.5 lbs, nothing too big though. The big ones like the warm water too. Saturday was an off day, I've seen them bite a lot better. Today was terrible for me, couldn't catch a fish.

Re: Baldwins hot water discharge (dough4200)

I am glad that most of the fisherman were over in the hot water. That gave me the rest of the lake. My best bite came in 52-54 degree water so I was pretty far from them. I didn't have a single boat within a quarter of a mile from me all day. I caught a smallie 14 inches long (probably the same shelf your talking about), but the rest of the fish were all over 19". I found one school on a flat, but the rest I caught individually.

Hey, when does the southern part of the lake open up? I have seen boats go down there, so they must not enforce it.

If it's not open yet. It's not worth a ticket to find out if they enforce it.

I hear ya. I wouldn't be too excited about a ticket.
