Moving to Savannah

Just got word i will be getting stationed in Savannah Ga, any tips on areas to live or not live and anything that you think would be usefule to know. We are looking forward to it.

Here I am, here I am... Sorry it took me so long to see this. Give me a call when you get a chance and I will happily help you out. Will you be stationed for Army, full time Guards, or Coast Guard? We have a few other Coasties that are regulars on here that have recently moved away. You can check with BBC member Jay Law who actually just left Mobile, Al and transferred to NJ with the CG if you prefer to speak with a fellow military person. There is also BBc members Luther Cosner (Chico and the boys) and Adam Moorehouse - Coast Guard(muyman22) as well as Richard Bates another Coastie that has recently been transferred to DC I believe it was. I have grown up in the area and can give you about any advice you need...

Unless you have been here before, you have no idea how hot it can get in south Georgia. And gnats in your face and ears 9 months out of the year! That's about all you need to know.

as far as the heat im currently in south west Louisiana so the heat i can handle. all of the gnats explains all the screened in porches i have seen looking at houses online.

Wish I could be on here all the time but its not possible..just saw your IM. Let me know in an IM where you will be working and if you have an idea of where you want to be. Like I said I have been here all my life. Plenty of good people and good areas to be. Just as many that you would want to stay away from. No different than any other town for sure..

Jason, there are a lot of nice places you can look at. It all depends on what your looking for...rental/owner, budget, etc. If you are stationed at HAAFB you can find something nice in the Savannah's southside or if you are looking for something near the beach, you should look around Wilmington Island, or Whitemarsh Island (pronounced "WIT-marsh"). If you are stationed in Ft. Stewart you should look around the Richmand Hill area. Good luck and let us know if you need anything.
