    Okeechobee Water Levels

Although the water level looks good now at what level do you start worrying about running around the lake?

I'm heading up there this weekend and the water looks good at 13.52 ft ASL but for future reference I wanted to get an idea about when it starts getting tough to run the lake.

I am not a " brave" guy, when it gets below 12.5 I no longer run the lake. alot more idling and trolling motor for me.

At 13.5 or lower I will not run the back trail up the shoal. I've seen spots were it looks like slabs of concrete where poured. Under 13 I start to pay attention to the depth finder before coming of plane. Sometimes you got to trim the motor way up when coming down to be safe, and wash the back deck

If you have an agile passenger with you, have them go up and lay on the front deck while getting up and off plane.

Between 13 and 11 feet can you usually idle out into the lake (i.e idle out of Uncle Joes cut about 100 yards or so) and then run out in the lake to get where you are going or is that still a problem?

I'm just wondering about this stuff because if the same thing happens as last year it won't be too long before it becomes an issue again.

    Re: (NitroZ7)

While you always need to know where your running, it gets more important below 12'. Below 11 you really need to know your way around. That mid 11's to 10 is the most dangerous range as a lot of obstructions in main areas are hidden. The lowest I have run and fished the main lake is 8.89. I wouldn't recommend this but the boat traffic was minimal
