For the life of me, I can't find the write up on it with pictures, it's on the board here somewhere.

But I have an 86 Evinrude 150, and I'm guessing it to be similar?

If it's similar, you only have to come in on the port side of the engine (cowl off), and undo a few hoses, and push aside a wire harness or 2.

You'll see the bolt right underneath the carbs,(shift rod sticking up from the mid-section, in the middle of the lower pan) and I had to go in with a socket with an elbow and an extension or 2. (can't remeber the exact sizes, etc.)

Hopefully somone will post up a link to that wirte-up, but I'll keep looking.

Put the control handle in reverse, that will bring the bolt down into view. A 3/8" short socket on a 1/4" drive is best. Don't forget to spin the prop while shifting into reverse, this will allow the Clutchdog to align properly with the gear.

Remove the shift cable for ease of access and pull out the "hair pin" clip from the shift assembly lever shaft at the motor. Push the lever towards the center of the engine to disconnect the shift rod under the powerhead.

Hey SEAHORSE I finally got achance to put some muffs on this motor and run it.
I noticed water coming out from where lower unit was removed is there supposed to be any type of sealant around there, also there apeered to be water coming from around were the shift linkage goes thru. Sorry if the questions seem dumb this is my first boat

Water will come out the seam area where the gearcase and mid-section meet. It is not a sealed area.
