I do not think the boy was fishing, he just happened to catch one in the net while shrimping.

They are thick in the St. Johns right now...I have seen them up to 6-7 inches long! Fishing is tough in the river right now with all the bass having pink mouths and sores from eating all the shrimp!

If they did, in fact, take that bass home and eat it they are in violation of the regulation even if it was a bycatch while shrimping.

Sam, went out to the river yesterday(Sat) fished all of juilington creek from dawn till noon never got a bass bite. This is the worst i have seen the river in the last 10 years. I even fished the bridge with crankbaits. i was looking for that 8 lber.

    Re: shrimping (Skeeter-E)

Just got home from the river. Put it down at Mandarin Park by the bridge and fished the main river docks. Never could get a bite from anything. My boy had a couple fish grab a gulp shrimp under a popping cork but couldn't hook anything. I stuck with the bass baits and pulled a zero like a champ!! Guess I should've made the drive back over to Orange Lake this morning.

    Re: shrimping (Ring King)

when the shrimp are as thick as they are right now, it is TOUGH...
ive had success trrowing pumpkinseed worms before....but what they want is a shrimp.. historically the peak of the season is for the next 30 days or so...if we can get a big rain event ( ie tropical storm ) it will trigger the shrimp to leave the river, you can tell when they are ready to leave, their legs will start to turn red.....the shrimp will venture all the way to the jetties in lake george, and even to bear island in crescent....
