    Question Subaru Legacy

The wife is finally ready to quit throwing money at her fine German Automobiles (BMW - 3 series OR Benz - C Class). The maintenance on these is killer. You can't drive past the dealer without throwing out $300 for something. I have tried to push her into a Honda Accord or some sort of Ford Product, but to no avail. Anyone got any comments, good or bad on a Subaru? Maintenance cost? Dependability? Etc.?

Subaru has a rep for reliability. My son has had several over the years and has nothing but praise for them.

Take a look at Kia and Hyundai if she wants a car. They have great warranties. The Legacy is a fine car if you go that way.

Unofficial car of Vermont. Will need a Bernie sticker along with peace sign and coexist stickers to make it official!

I don't have one but there are about a million of them around here.

Thank you for your incredible insight.

As to the original question, they are very good vehicles. Safe, durable, etc.
They are NOT as comfy as a BMW or Mercedes, but they aren't terrible at all.
Subarus are durable, maybe the most durable nowadays. Reliability good.
The upside, AWD all the time, strong cage, well designed, time tested, etc.
The downside, almost no aftermarket parts, smaller dealer network, etc.

I wouldn't at all hesitate to purchase a Subaru, Toyota or Honda vehicle.
They are all good values with solid crash test results, safety first, always.

Most importantly, buy Mom what she wants, it's going to make life better.

I'm on my second Legacy. First vehicle outside of a big 3 vehicle. The first one was a 2001 Legacy Limited GT--- Loaded. Now in a 2009 Legacy. When the 4 WD trucks are on their roofs, I cruise down the highway.

Wife was an Olds and Buick girl, until a few years ago when nothing was moving because of the snow. I took her to the store in my Legacy driving around stuck vehicles. In 2015 she bought a new Forester. CC set @ 65 MPH on the road i avg. 33 mpg.

We have never had any repairs yet. AMSOIL in every vehicle

Okiebass--- i think you just won the Darwin award for the stupidest post

If that's her preference, I'd say you can buy with confidence. Personally I prefer the feel and drivability of Honda but that's not based on my being worried about quality. Have a couple of Subaru drivers in the family. They love em but then Subaru owners do tend to be unusually loyal to the brand. Not sure why the connection with political affiliation but it's not a myth. Whether it's the AWD or size of the vehicles or corporate policies? They seem to work well for outdoorsy people who have racks for bikes, skis, kayaks, etc.

I wonder how bad you have to suck at life to turn a question about a car manufacture into something political....

Personally, I have not owned one. Family members and coworkers do, never heard any of them say a bad word about them.

My wife has an Outback and I have a Crosstrek. We love them both. Contact BBC member Bronzebackfive. He works at the plant and can get you VIP pricing. He got it for us on both of our vehicles.

My wife will not part with her 2012 outback with around 160,000 trouble free miles. We tow the boat with the truck most of the time but her Outback with the 3.6 is more than capable of towing our 18 foot boat. We have hauled two kayaks on the roof racks all over the place even though they are not in the same class as the higher end Thule but have that nice folding feature when not in use.

Subaru makes a great vehicle. The only downside I've found to them is their top of line isn't as luxurious as other car makers. This may be an issue if she is used to luxury cars. We ended up with a Rav4 instead of a Forester because my wife wanted the 360 degree camera, which Subaru didn't offer.

Man, some of you guys need to lighten up and learn to take a joke. Heck one guy never owned a Subaru and he's offended. No joke, half my team at work owns Subarus. They all love them and have only minor issues. They are well aware of the Subaru jokes, and even make them themselves. One guy calls his a Lesbaru.

About as bad off as you have to be to miss an obvious attempt at a joke.

Joke all you want....just sick and tired of everything having to be political.

If you cannot make a joke without repeating the same old tired comments try a little harder.

It's the state vehicle of Colorado. Here's my .02.

The heaters in the newer ones have been having problems. Friend of mine just got rid of their '16 Forester or Outback (can't remember which) after 4 or 5 different trips to the dealer because even after an hour, the heater wouldn't warm up. Come to find out, this has been a consistent issue but Subaru won't recall them or issue a TSB. Also, it's not uncommon for them to have lubrication issues. The boxer engines are good, and if you get a good one, you're fine. But there's a lot that have issues. There's currently a class-action lawsuit against Subaru because they are burning excessive amounts of oil (yet still within Subaru's "acceptable" levels). Also, the turbo models have a history of burning up the #3 cylinder because that's where the turbocharger sits, and it overheats that one cylinder.

That's coming from the state that for many years, bought more Subaru's than the entire country of Japan.
