    June NoAl Tournament Dilemma

The monthly NoAl tournament for June is currently scheduled to be held out of Ingall's Harbor at Wheeler on the 18th. Unfortunately for us, there's a BASS Elite Series event out of the same launch site on that date. I haven't asked but I'm pretty sure BASS isn't going to move their event even though ours was announced first.

Anyway, we have a couple of different options. Option one is to keep it on Wheeler but move our tournament to Decatur Harbor.

Option two is to keep it on Wheeler but move to a different part of the lake to avoid the Elite guys and their "entourage". Someone at the Pickwick weigh in suggested that we might want to consider using the ramp at Joe Wheeler State Park.

Option three would be to move it to a different lake entirely.

Cast your vote and let's see where this lands!

Wheeler won't be crowded on that Saturday. They will have made the big cut by then. I would stay away from the Decatur ramps though.

Decatur wont be a problem at either ramp. And those 50 will be all over the lake, no different from fishing Gville or Pickwick with a 100 boat tourney going on.

Jason & Kerry, will the main ramp be closed to weekend anglers due to the Elite tournament or will it be open to anyone (like us). After the cut, how many Elites will be left?

The main ramp shouldn't be closed, but it will be a circus there with everything setup and all of the spectators.

Should be 50 competing on Saturday if I remember right.

There will be 50 anglers and also they don't start at safe light. I believe they blast off at 6:00 or 6:30, late mourning by then. Last time they were at wheeler in June it was pretty crowded in Decauter, mostly river channel area's

Avery, going to try to make it just waiting to see what work does

Re: June NoAl Tournament Dilemma (AveryF)

Guys, I had one of our members send me an IM that raises a very interesting point and, after thinking about it, makes me believe that our poll is flawed. What I should've done is have a simple poll with just two choices - keep it at Wheeler or move to a different lake.

What has essentially happened is that the "keep it at Wheeler" votes are split between those who've voted to move it to Decatur Harbor and those who've voted to move it to Joe Wheeler State Park. (It's kind of like when Ross Perot threw his hat into the ring as an independent in the 1992 presidential campaign that split the Republican vote and ended up electing Clinton to the presidency and we all know how that worked out! )

Anyway, in retrospect, I think it's only fair to combine the total number of Wheeler votes and if Wheeler ends up the most votes, we'll have a second poll to determine a launch location. If the "fish a different lake" choice ends up with the most votes, we'll have a second poll to determine the lake and launch location.

    Sorry for the screw up.

Personally I wish it was out of 2nd Creek on Wheeler and you were only limited to that creek out to the mouth. Would save a lot of gas. Oh wait a minute. I don't even have a boat!!!

How about just off the bank below the dam??? We could all carpool down there and save truck gas too...

Jason, I sold my Triton/Honda today. I'm boat-less bank trash too.

Oh, wait a minute, I got a nice Skeeter in trade. Never mind. Let's do Wheeler.

I vote Wheeler, Avery. I ain't ever fished it but twice but I'll give it a shot. I think I can find a partner. Right, Brad??

Something else to think about are some of hotheads on the pro tour, if you was to fish within a half mile of good ol Aaron Martens or Mr. Ish Monroe, you may cause them to have a slight stoke...I'm pretty new to fishin with you folks but if im able I will go to wherever y'all decide to fish...

Re: June NoAl Tournament Dilemma (Dennis S.)

Awe, come on now, Dennis. The ones I named died out 30 years ago. I doubt if the 12th generation of those fish is still living. Nope, these fish in Wheeler today don't act like those stupid grass fish did in the 70's and early 80's. For what it's worth, I am fishing Wheeler for my 42nd year this year. Probably not a record, but a dang good average!

I remember when nobody, I mean NOBODY, fished within 5 miles of BFNP 'cause they thought it was DANGEROUS. Everybody was scared to death to get near it. Jerry Lawler and I started fishing that bank of riprap and never saw anybody else fish it for 10 years. But, the word got out and holy smoke! Now we take a number down there.

As for the lake, I understand that TVA poisoned the grass about 4 years ago with a poison that guaranteed no regrowth for at least 5 years. That means within the next few years we should see a comeback of the grass. It will be a new lake again.

Dennis, when we gonna fish together? The deep fish are eating now. I am just getting ready to hit the spoon fish...
