    lay lake area

Got question for you 'Bama guys. The KY Lake w-end series regional championship is on Lay Lake in October. I live in Lexington KY and is there anything for the family to do in the area while I am on the water?

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Dave

Check out the 4-H club there near the launch ramp, just google it near columbiana, al and you will get all the info you need. Nice place to stay as well. Very friendly folks and have kids summer camp activities...on the lake too!

If you have kids check out the MCwane Science center and the Birmingham zoo.

The zoo isn't the San Deigo zoo, but it isn't bad for Alabama.

    There is an amusement park.

I've never been. I wouldn't put it in the class with six flags or disney though.

One thing I highly recommend is the museum at the Barber Motorsports Park. It is very cool.

I'm not huge on racing, but the museum is very cool. Plus its across the street from Bass Pro.

Two thumbs up on the McWane Science Center! My wife, daughter, and granddaughter went there a couple of weeks ago and had an absolute ball.

Good stuff there, but it also just depends on where you are staying. If you are going out at Paradise or Harpersville or Wilsonville/Columbiana. If you are staying close to Chelsea they have a place there with jumps...etc. for kids.

Re: lay lake area (fish recycler)

If it was me I would stay off the first Calera exit. There is a Holiday Inn right there, a walmart and a few restaurants right there. There is also a Hampton Inn right there too and its only about 20 minutes pulling a boat to Beeswax from there. If you stay over in Childersburg area there are alot of back roads to try to navigate to the ramp early in the morning. Heck there is even a cracker barrell there...Most out of towners stay there for Lay lake tourneys so these hotels are used to bassboats staying...

Going too. Have read reports back to 2000 for Oct month and everything from 62 to 74 degree water..topwaters-jigs-cb's-worms-you name it. Tx weights from 8 lbs when tough to 17 lbs...lower lake-mid lake-upper lake-grass-docks-pockets-creeks.

Guess we'll have to go fish and find what we can in a couple days of practice..then compete with those that have been fishing it 20 years
