2002 175 Fitch

I'm considering purchase of a 2002 175HP Fitch on a 1999 Stratos 285. The origional Fitch was replaced under warranty by owner. Is the 2002 Fitch a solid motor? Anything specific to have checked out by service before purchase.
How is the fuel economy on this motor compared to other 175HP's.

It is a BRP built motor and very solid. Besides a compression check find out when it was decarbed. The DI motors need to be decarbed once a year if you run XD50 oil If you run XD 100 do not worry about it. The plugs need to be indexed when installed.

have a 2003. Love it. Remove Cowl and see if it has a schrader valve (Just like a valve stem on a tire) on the return fuel rail (their is also a supply fuel rail). If it is there, check and see if your motor is under a recall that replaces it with a return fuel rail with out a schrader valve. If it is not, great! If it does have a valve (and you are not part of the recall-like I was), set aside $200 for the rail and $200 for labor to switch it out just in case it pops out. This should not be a reason not to buy, just something to be aware of. Ask when they last decarbed, when the plugs were last changed (every 100 hrs) as well.

Thanks for the response and info on the motor.. The more I read and research on the late model Fitch, sounds like BRP and Rude did the right thing, stood behind their product and addressed the issues.
