What to do in Birmingham on weeknights?

And I don't want to hear anything about adult establishments.

I'm going to be spending Monday through Friday in Birmingham for the next three months (Feb, March, April). I'll be returning on the weekends and a few Fridays when I have a tournament on Saturday. But, otherwise, I'll be in my apartment wondering what there is to do. I'll have tennis courts and a basketball court if anyone wants to play.

I figure I can only make so many trips to BPS in Prattville.

You can always go to one of the Academy Sports stores and buy all the H2O lures.

Jason what part of town are you staying in. A lot of apartments in Birmingham look good on paper but are not only dumps but dangerous. When do you get to town? Boat show starts Weds. Shoot me your # on an IM, Ill get my wife to cook dinner one night and get you a home cooked meal. And one day you arent working Ill take you out to Lay lake. Its only 40 minutes from town. If you don't know where Marks outdoors is Ill run you over there. Its in Vestavia. Simmons sporting goods in Bessemer too.

I'll be staying at the Colonial Grand at Riverchase. It's supposed to be pretty decent.

I'll be arriving this weekend, probably Sunday. If I can talk my wife into letting me come down Saturday I'll swing by the boat show on Sunday. I know about Mark's and Academy. But, I figure over three month's time I can only go there so many times.

I'll definitely take up the offers for fishing. I'd thought about bringing my boat down, but I'm not sure of the arrangements at the apartments. I know it's gated, but don't know if I'd actually have space to park it. And, I sure don't know the waters down there.

Jason, Colonial Grand is a nice place. Most of the less desirable clients have been relocated elsewhere. Galleria shopping center is close by w/ it's large food court. Plenty of other places to eat, 10 screen movie house, etc.

    I doubt you'll get bored.

Stop by Aeromarine at the show on Sunday. Plenty of Stratos and other boats to drull over.

I don't drool too much. I've got what I want. Never hurts to plan for next year though.

Thanks for the info. I thought it was close to the Galleria. I'm not much of a mall person except when my wife makes me go. But, it'll definitely give me some food choices.

I do decal work on the side, so I'm planning on taking my plotter with me so I can mess with that stuff some at night too.

like everybody said, you are real close to Academy and Marks (where I spend a lot of money). the Galleria is good for shopping and such. if you like Japanese food Styx in the Galleria parking lot next to the NTB place is pretty good. ive been out of the bar scene a while so I cant help you there. Oak Mountain St park is about 5 miles down 31. they have several lakes you can fish from the bank or rent a boat. if you have a jon boat you can bring that. big Rave movie theatre is at Patton Creek across 150 from your apartments.

I'm really going to try and keep my eating out to a minimum unless some of you guys want to meet up once a week or something. I get a meal allowance (just a lump sum I'll get when I get down there to cover the three months) so I want to eat as cheap as possible. But, like I said, any of you that want to meet up during the week just let me know.

Thats definently the side of town to stay on. There is plenty to do down that way as far as restaurants , movies and shopping.....
The galleria is a good place to go , you can get something to eat and do some people watching.
Dicks sporting goods is right up on top of the hill at Patton Creek, there is a nice gun store up 150 on the left after you cross over hwy 31..farther up hwy 150/lorna road after you cross over 65 there is a country bar on the right.
If you get too bored maybe we can get a group of some of us that live close to all meet for dinner in Hoover one night

Someone mentioned Simmons Sporting Goods. I highly recommend those guys. They have a lot of the higher end stuff like Mark's and the people that work there are super helpful and friendly. I live across the street from Mark's and only go in there if I have to.

I agree with everything birdsnest said about Simmons. You should go while you are in town.
