    E-tec ???

My dealer told me that my E-Tec needed to have a 100 hour service done. I have almost 185 hours on it now and was just wondering if the commercial says 300 hours or 3 years witch is right the dealer or E-Tec? If it dose need the 100 hour service is this false advertisement and why was I not told by the dealer when I bought the motor?

There is no 100 hour service on a ETEC.

Your dealer might deal with a lot of 4 strokes and not be familiar with E-tecs, or is short on cash...

The thing to remember is the 300 hr/ 3 yr. scheduled service is for recreational motors used in fresh water. The manual goes on to say that more often service may be needed in commercial, saltwater, or high performance use. They also recommend lubing the propshaft and the grease fittings more often in salt water.

Now your dealer may be feeding you a line, may only want to do a cursory checkover, or who knows? Talk to him and ask what exactly needs done, why, and how much?

Like seahorse stated, we are in 100% saltwater. What we offer our repower customers at the end of the year is a $75.00 service. For this the fittings get greased, gearlube changed, propshaft cleaned and greased, flush with saltaway and fog the enigne for them, spray the powerhead down with CRC. A engine report also gets pulled. Yes this is all the easy stuff the customer can handle and is why we only charge $75.00.. I call this a once a year checkup not a 100 hour service. We also address any warranty issue that we may see and most have us recondition there props during the offseason.

As for our commercial customers we see them to every 400 hours not 300. What we have found is they can go to 400 with no problems. THe gearlube was still looking just fine at the 300 hour mark. By going the extra 100 hours they are pulling there boats less during the year to have it serviced. The guys that only work the summer are putting 900 hours on them a season and the few that work year round are appox 1,100 hours per season.

I live in Memphis and have a 07-225HO. Do you know of anyone around here that would have a $75.00 checkup like yours?

Talk to a dealer service manager who you trust and tell them what you want. The average labor rate nationwide is about $75-80 per and gear oil , greasing, visual inspection, and computer printout, any software updates, and a idle temp check could be done in just under an hour, plus the lube.

ARK sorry but I do not know any dealers down there. There are not alot of dealers today that want to do service. They just want to sell, sell, sell. We do not sell boats. We just repower and service Johnson and Evinrude outboards and thats it. People ask us how we can make money doing this service? We really dont make much off of it. What it does is help us make more repower sales, people rember this service and come back for bigger jobs, and many people leave us a list of other items that need to be fixed to the boat. Its like a supermarket where they stick the bread and milk in the back of the store. They know by making you walk threw the store you will throw other items into the cart.

I've got a good dealer that I trust but he is 100 miles away. There is one in memphis that I like the main parts and mechanic guy but they are a sell, sell, sell and mostly YAMA's. Also he does not do the actual work. I'm very touchy about my motors and being this way has given me many years of very good motor hours.
