    XP150 Broken Crankshaft

    Hello Gentlemen!
It's been a few months since I've posted here, but that's only because you guys got me squared away so nicely on my XP150, that I haven't had anything to discuss!
However, Saturday's trip changed that (in a major way). I was running her at about 4000RPM, when it dropped about 150RPM and stabilized. I glanced down at the water pressure and temperature gauges, and nothing looked out of the ordinary. All of a sudden, the RPM dropped significantly, and some horrible noises came from my motor as I pulled the power back to idle and shut off the motor.
Anyway, I got everything pulled apart, and took some pictures of what I found (attached).[IMG][/IMG]
    Here are the details:
    Model Year: 1989
    Model No: TE150SLCEM
    Serial No: R08241230
The good news (if there is any) is that the broken crank did not do any damage to the block. So, here's the question...is this motor worth rebuilding?

Thank you in advance for all of the expert advice I know I'm about to receive.

    Scott

Sure it is, you came out very good if you did'nt hurt the block. Another crank, and you're back in business. I still have some very nice one's left in my inventory if you have trouble finding one. My guess is @ 300.00 for a nice used one, which is about what they went for in the late 70's. Guess some things never change!!

    Re: XP150 Broken Crankshaft (gearcaseman)

Thanks for the encouragement, GC Man! I would be very interested in a good used crankshaft. Would it require any machining or would it be good to go upon receipt?

Also, to the brilliant MODS on this forum , do you have any recommendations on other items to address "while I'm in there?" I've heard that there are some aftermarket reed valves that I may want to consider installing. Any thoughts?

    Many thanks to all!

Scott, the crank would be ready as you don't machine these as you might an automotive crank. You would want to retain the sealing rings on your broken crank for possible future use, as well as the upper and lower crankheads. These pieces of yours will be O.K. I'm pretty sure. Thanks for your interest!

    Re: XP150 Broken Crankshaft (Bassmeister)

Will do. I knew I would get taken care of here on the 'Rude forum. Now that I have a crank, there's still the matter of all of the gaskets, seals, fasteners, etc. that I'll need to go back together with it.

I like to support those who support me, so how do I go about ordering parts from someone who supports this forum? Bassmeister, do you work for an Evinrude/Johnson service shop? If not, any recommendation on who to go to?

I'm going to need a regulator/rectifier and I'll be going through the midsection as well, so I'll be needing lots of stuff.

    Thanks!!

Scott, I'll be glad to help you with seals and gaskets. A complete kit for your motor is @ 69.00 for all the gaskets and the crank seal kit is @ 20.00

Any parts Eddie don't have, you can get a hold of CandO Marine, or Barnacle Bills, both are sponsers!!
