    Triton or Ranger.. need advice

Im upgrading my tr-185 this season and looking at two boats...

    first boat is a 2008 Z520 Ranger - 250hp - All new electronics in 2011 plus a fortrex 101 and powerpole... asking $39,000.

    Second boat - New 2011 Triton 19xs - 225hp - hummingbird everything - power pole ect.. asking $38,900

Any advice? Im on the big lake alot (Erie) with my tr-186 and it runs great but need more space and speed...lots of tourny fishing...
what boat is the better deal? new or used? ranger or triton... my opinion is they both seem like a good deal but the triton being new seems to get the edge...

I like the size of the Ranger but wonered how much deck space I would be giving up if I went with the Triton...

    advice would be great...

    thanks

I wouldn't think there would be a huge speed difference. Id rather have the motor warrenty.

    Tough call.
A lot to be said for buying new and that is a good price on the Triton.
The bigger boat will certainly handle Erie better and safer.

If you think the 186 is doing well for you.......either of these boats is going to be a huge upgrade for ya. That being said, the motor warranty alone would get my vote for the new boat. Speed will be real close to the same and that is a great price on the 19XS.

If you fish any tournaments the Triton Gold is a nice perk.

Although I would probably go for the 20 footer

I would go with the Merc Pro XS, not the Merc opti. The Pro XS has more power and either boat is heavy and will need the better more advanced motor. Plus resale value on the Pro XS will be better.

Also the XS hull is deeper and sits higher out of the water so you will definitely need a longer shaft trolling motor on that boat for Erie.

Thats a great price on the Xs! ive been pricing a few. the 19Xs is a VERY wide boat and compared to my 21X I wouldnt loose as much deck as you would think because of the lift. Rangers are great boats in rough stuff and they are built extremely well. I could never go away from the Triton ride. Plus you get that new warranty, Triton Gold, and that new boat smell

Buddy,I have owned every ranger from the r series to the commanche. I bought a used 2001 tr-186 triton for my son as a starter boat. There is no comparison between a ranger and a triton in terms of quality. IMO ranger all the way. Not trying to bash triton. But cracked gel coat, gas smell in lockers, rust on trailer. Still fixing issues on the triton. IMO it's a no brainer to get a ranger. Just trying to save you the angst associated with a triton.

You are comparing a 2001 Tr 186 to a 2011 19XS? There is no comparison.

There is no comparsion between a 2001 186 and a 19XS. I had a 19XS and the boat was perfect.

OKAY..went and saw the triton.. nice boat and the size and speed if fine... I did make an offer along with a trade in..my tr-186...

I offered $35,000 in a cash deal along with trade...

was met with complete dismay that I would offer below list... I told them I would write a check for the boat and the trade would make them at least $2000... along with that I told them I would upgrade the front graph and trolling motor... still met with amazment that I would offer lower then what they wanted...

was told more people are looking at the boat... i told asked them if any of the "many" others had cash?? they didnt know...

so...advice is wasnted... also Ranger is still available and the guy loved my offer of $36,000 cash.. I feel the triton may be a better situation but they are not very kind with any negotiating and given I have a check ready for them as well as upgrades and a trade, that is a bit perplexing??
also the boat is a demo and has over 25 hours or so on it... ie not "brand" new...

    any advice?

</td></tr></table>Demo....explains the great price. I would find out if the motor is going to be registered as new and gets the full 5 year warranty. Knowing the prices...he probably doesn't have ANY room for negotiations on that price BUT your boat and that cash offer looks great to me. Give me a call if your interested in what might be a better deal for ya.

You will lose a lot of deck space, no boat on the market any wider across the front pedestal area than a Z520.

Where can you get such a good deal on a 19xs? Go with the Triton!

Read the post! I said every model of ranger from r series to the best. I have never had the issues with rangers bottom of the line boat that I have seen with a triton.

Re: Triton or Ranger.. need advice (luigisbass)

Sorry dude, but you comparing every ranger you had with a 2001 tr186. No dout ranger is an amazing boat, triton not far behind and not way over priced. I to have seen some of rangers down falls, and for the price my buddies are paying for their rangers, I have to say I dont think I would buy one...

    Thats me...

If you can get that guy down on that triton, that would be a sick deal. If it has 25 hrs on it, just think, how many fishing trips would it take to put 25hrs on it. Not many.

Still trying to work out a deal with someone on a boat... a couple guys from this forum have emailed me some great deals... very good stuff...but I am still trying to figure out the guy I am dealing with around here... unreal how this has gone... I have a cash deal for this guy on the 19xs triton along with a trade with a potential buyer in place for $2000 more than trade... deal done right... NOPE.. owner of marina calls me and tells me his guy messed up the numbers... that the list price of the boat is as low as it will go and that they have another potential buyer but were trying to figure out his credit... UNREAL. I have a check in hand and they are checking some other guys credit... plus I told them I would buy some gear and a new graph with the boat... and they try to play the "another buyer" deal... unreal... I have bought a couple boats around my way and for some reason these guys always tell everyone that the price shown is the lowest it can go... and what is even more amazing is they get away with it with most buyers... and customer service... none... you would think I was selling the boat and they were buying...

    unreal...

so I called a guy a couple cities away... bigger triton...new... 2010...250 merc...only a couple grand more than the smaller 19xs... plus the guy was nice...said thanks... and genuinely seemed to appreciate my business... For all you guys buying boats... stick to your guns... if you think your being taking for a ride, you probably are... remember you are the one spending the money not them.. I cant believe I actually felt guilty for offering lower than list... never again.. lots of good sellers out there with some being on this forum... what is even worse if you knew who ran the marina I was dealing with you would be shocked...
