    Happy to be running aluminum

With gas prices about ready to go through the roof once again, I'm glad I got out of tournaments and sold my Ranger and went to aluminum when I did. This will be the second summer of $4.00 a gallon gas since I sold in 2000. I fish just as much if not more now just spend a whole lot less.

I'm thinking of doing the same. I have an old aluminum now and a newer glass boat but would like to sell both and get one decent aluminum rig.

I did the same thing last month, so far I like the tin boat. Some friends thought I lost my mind.

yeah being 18+ high gas price = no glass boat with big motor. my little 9..9 can go forever on a full tank i love it

Got rid of my 97 Skeeter with a 150 TRP Yamaha and bought a 2001 Ranger Cherokee aluminum with a Merc 125...the less tow weight alone will save me big $ and the smaller outboard I hope to save as well. I can tell a HUGE difference in towing. Plus I stuck about $2500 in my pocket from the sell and purchase

The Cherokee was made for Ranger by Crestliner I believe, good quality outfit.

I've been in aluminum since day one and still fish tournaments. I used to always tell the big boat guys when they laughed at my 15ft./9.9 combo, "yours might be faster, but the checks worth more in my boat".....

It's not just about the towing, although that is sweet.

It's also about the boat's performance and power to weight ratio.

We have to be careful about adding weight by way of accessories and decks and what not. Those deck projects, if overbuilt, are self defeating.

As a percentage each pound hurts us more than it does a heavier glass boat.

I have a pt 185 I bought new in 2001. I am the only person in my clug with an aluminium boat and I love it. I can tow it with my jeep and it goes the speed limit. no need for a huge motor if you can't use it :)
