Agree with Paul. Plan on putting some money and work into an older rig even if it looks ok. On that rig check the stringer/stiffbacks, transom, splash well drain, battery box corners, and pull the wallet/keys/phone plastic storage liner and feel for wet foam under the cooler and livewells.

Be careful on these older models, sometimes you never know the real condition until it's too late.

    Re: Too much money??? (blair)

    Just one question Eric:
If ya had to do it all over again would ya??? I have my blazer but have always liked the strokers. The blazer is paid off and really dont want another boat payment, thats why I was looking. Thanks everyone for the heads up When did the strokers go all composite? Are the older strokers heavier or lighter?

    Re: Too much money??? (BlaznbyU)

Yeah, but only because I can do the work myself. its kinda like fixing up an old truck or hot rod. If I had to farm out all the work or didnt enjoy doing restore work id look for a composite rig though. I think they went composite in 98, one of the others can tell ya for sure. I havent noticed mine "feeling any heavier than a composite one or riding any different. Chub built these older rigs with wood the right way, its just that their getting some age to them and be prepaired to give them some TLC, and buy accordingly if you go that route.
Honestly the rig you posted i wouldnt give much more than what the motors worth im sure theres something thats gonna need attention or up dating on it. And with the lower unit it has it will never run to its potiential, thats a 70-75 mph rig the way it sits.

    Re: Too much money??? (BlaznbyU)

Buying any older boat that had plywood stringers balsa coring its a gamble. I bought a 91 project . Even though the cap is already loose, I will not be sure on the coring until I can cut out the floor (waiting till after my winter work season is over). Wood naturally attracts moisture and people drill holes to mount stuff on stringers ,decks, floors ect. (Talked to Chub about it he mentioned northern boats going through freeze cycles could more suspect.) its just how the boat was treated. Stringer caps get damaged over time and people install transducers ect. I would plan on some work even on a perfect looking hull. If you can do some work yourself and enjoy it , well.
On the weight Chub has the weight he likes and says the boats handle well at that weight and has always tried to build at that weight, belive its 11 or 1200 bare hull. Chub can give you a value on hull.
